Activant Integrates to Top Pharmacy Management Systems
Retail business management leader offers drugstores a new strategy for growth
LIVERMORE, CA, July 28, 2009 – Activant Solutions Inc., a leading provider of retail business management solutions, today announced its integration bridge between the Activant Eagle® business management and point-of-sale system and the industry's top pharmacy management systems. The solution provides drugstores the ability to supercharge their retail business in coordination with their current pharmacy management system. Activant's Pharmacy Integration Bridge acts as an interface between the Activant Eagle software and the HBS, McKesson, PDX and QS/1 pharmacy management systems and will work with other Pharmacy Management Systems (PMS) solutions as well.
With competition from big box retail chain stores and a reduction in the margins on physician-written prescriptions, independent pharmacies are challenged to focus on their retail operations for business growth and increased profit. Activant's retail business management solutions and best practices are proven to drive business growth and provide both pharmacists and retailers the essential tools they need to manage sales, inventory and costs.
“We engaged with Activant because we wanted to grow our retail business and knew we needed a best-of-breed retail system. We needed timely information and tools to properly support our business,” said Bob Messick, CFO of Fruth Pharmacy. “By combining the Activant Eagle solution with our PDX pharmacy management system, we get superior solutions for managing both the retail and pharmacy operations in our business. We believe that these tightly integrated systems will help us improve customer service, increase margins and lower costs.”
Used by over 7,000 retail businesses, the Activant Eagle solution is a proven and comprehensive retail management solution. The Activant Eagle POS system gives independent pharmacies visibility into their retail operations, control over their inventory, and the management tools they need to help drive profitability and sales. For example, the Activant Eagle system includes in-house loyalty and gift card programs to generate new customers and increase sales to existing customers.
Activant's Pharmacy Integration Bridge allows pharmacies to provide one point of service to its customers. The customer can select a toothbrush or other sundries from the front of the store, pick up a prescription from the back of the store and pay for all items at the same time in one seamless transaction. The integrated bridge will act as a vehicle to enable pharmacies to collect the HIPAA signatures and the healthcare benefit card information as a part of their PMS Solution. It will separate what is covered by healthcare benefit cards and flexible spending accounts versus what has to be paid with cash and calculates the co-pay.
“Pharmacy management systems are complex solutions that perform a difficult and important function in managing a successful pharmacy operation,” said Paul Salsgiver, executive vice president for Activant Solutions. “However, recent changes to the pharmacy industry are forcing drug stores to become more sophisticated retailers. Activant has over 30 years of working with top retailers across the U.S., including a number of independent drug stores that are leveraging this knowledge and experience to dramatically improve their retail operations.”
